Casterton is a civil parish in the ceremonial county of Cumbria, encompassing Casterton and High Casterton, situated in the beautiful Lune Valley. In 2023 the county council was abolished and replaced by two new unitary authorities. Casterton falls within the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness council. The boundary to the west is the river Lune itself, whilst to the north-east the parish extends to the summit of Cragg Hill (682m), and includes the most extensive cave network in the UK. Our landscape, wildlife and cultural heritage have enjoyed the greater protection afforded from inclusion within the Yorkshire Dales National Park since 2016.
The resident population of around two hundred and fifty are served by a church, garage and shop, golf club, pub/restaurant and a village hall. The facilities of the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale are under two miles distant. All properties in the village have access to a high speed broadband service – a symmetrical 1Gb/s connection that is amongst the fastest in the the UK.
