A packed Casterton Village Hall enjoyed a delicious traditional Burns’ Night supper on Friday evening.
On a frosty night we were greeted at the door by piper Carolyn Francis then offered a wee dram to take the edge off the chill as we came into the cosy hall. The Selkirk Grace preceded the first course, followed by the piping in and address to the haggis. Diners’ glasses were kept topped up with whisky and wine throughout the evening and we enjoyed Carolyn’s fiddle music between courses.
The regularly topped-up glasses may have helped the animated reaction to the post-dinner traditional speeches, given by Nick Cotton, Chris Harvey and Lynda Skinner. More fiddle music from Carolyn and a lively ‘Closest Coin to the Bottle’ competition followed. Many were reluctant to leave the warmth of the hall and chatter continued for some time before it was, finally, time to call it a night.
Many thanks are due to the organisers, speakers, piper / fiddler and to all who came and contributed to making it such a fun and friendly evening.
