The village hall was packed out on Thursday night for Ladies That Dig, a comedy drama with original music about the great outdoors and the people who enjoy it. The cast of four: Joyce Branagh, Lisa Howard, Riana Duce and Helen Longworth, switched from character to character, from allotmenteers to archaeologists, metal detectorists to grave diggers, and moved seamlessly forwards and backwards through time.

We were treated to comedy, a tinge of sadness and lots of great songs as the audience and cast moved through the seasons, exploring what growing together really means. There was even a pre-interval community distribution of spuds and carrots.

Ladies that Dig was created by The ‘Ladies That…..’ Company, written by Joyce Branagh with music by Helen Longworth; and was brought to Casterton Villge Hall by Highlights Rural Touring Scheme, which brings great arts and unmissable culture to rural areas.

The next social events in the village hall will be:

  • Easter-themed quiz night on 28th March – come along on the night, no need to pre-book
  • Rose Room on 18th May – tickets are now available to buy
