Rum Ragged, all the way from Newfoundland, performed their toe-tapping set to a sell-out crowd in Casterton Village Hall on 11th June. Aaron Collis (accordion, bouzouki and vocals), Mark Manning (guitar and vocals), Colin Grant (fiddle) and Zack Nash (guitar, bouzouki, banjo and vocals) treated the audience to a set of traditional Newfoundland folk tunes as well as their own compositions.
Mark and Aaron are avid collectors of songs and tunes from throughout Newfoundland that may never have been recorded before, and the tales of where they found these songs were fascinating. The band are used to performing in small rural venues and really seemed to connect with the Casterton audience.
Rum Ragged are almost at the end of their first UK tour, which has included the Orkney Folk Festival. They will be back in the UK in July to perform at the Cambridge Folk Festival.

Events in the village hall will take a break over the summer months, but will be back in the autumn with more quizzes, talks by fascinating local speakers, and another Highlights event, which will be on 31st October (details to be announced soon).
