Meet Queenie, Alex and Elaine – resident, relative and carer. Queenie, is staging a protest because she wants to have a tab and can’t have one without being supervised. Elaine’s mum is busy deciding whether she wants to go into a care home. Alex is a carer working in Cedar Point Care Home, where corridors roar with laughter and ache with sadness; where outrageous antics mingle with tough conversations.

Beyond Caring is a powerful new play by Durham-based playwright Christina Castling, that takes a look at life behind the doors of a care home and with frankness, humour and heartbreak uncovers the reality of caring for others, looking after ourselves and getting older. Based on interviews with care home residents, relatives and staff, Beyond Caring asks crucial questions about ageing and identity.
