Upcoming works on the M6
Works are scheduled to start on 17th November 2025 and finish by 27th March 2026 and will be completed in three phases
The project aims to alleviate flooding on the northbound entry slip and southbound exit slip at M6 Junction 36.
Phase 1 – Central Reservation Works: from Monday 17th November to Thursday 4th December. This will be a combination of 24-hour work, with lane 3 of the northbound and southbound closed round-the-clock and overnight lane and slip road closures.
Phase 2 – Northbound Carriageway and Entry Slip Works: from Friday 5th December to Monday 19th January. This will be daytime lane closures and overnight lane and slip road closures.
Phase 3 – 24-hour Works: from Tuesday 6th January to Friday 27th March. This will be southbound lane 1 closed round-the-clock.
There will be no traffic management on the network during the Christmas period (20th December to 4th January).
The permanent traffic management will be either a lane 1 closure on the southbound carriageway or back-to-back (northbound and southbound) lane 3 closures. To maintain safety for both road users and the workforce, speed restrictions of 50mph will be in place throughout the works area.
To complete the installation of the new drainage units, overnight full slip road closures will be required due to the size and operation of the plant. A full signed diversion route will be implemented to guide road users.
