Community Infrastructure Levy
Casterton parish council has money from the Community Infrastructure Levy (or CIL) to spend on improvements in the parish, and wants your ideas.
CIL is a general charge on new developments. The money given to the parish council came from new developments in Casterton, which was paid to the local authority though the planning process, and we have received the percentage that we are due. Parish councils, together with the community, can spend the money on a wide range of things.
What can this money be spent on?
Defined as infrastructure, which may be a physical thing such as a building, a playground or a zebra crossing. Or the provision of a new service such as transport for the elderly or a community cafe. It can’t generally be used for ongoing maintenance costs.
Other parishes have spent the money on things like:
- cycleways and footpaths
- parks and green spaces
- public seating
- social and sports facilities
- road safety
- tree planting / landscaping
- community transport
- maps
- electric vehicle charging points
Casterton residents are invited to submit ideas on how this money could be used improve life in Casterton. Projects costing from a few tens of pounds to a few thousand pounds will be considered. The parish council will review all suggestions.
Please email your ideas to the parish clerk.
The parish council will publish an annual report showing money received and grants awarded.
